The Shad Fest at Croton Point Park happens every May when the shad return to the Hudson from many years in the ocean. This particular Shad Fest is sponsored by Riverlovers, a sloop club of the good ship Clearwater. There is music, crafts, the famous chili that Riverlovers are noted for, and of course samples of shad or a shad dinner if you like. The river is broad and rolling at this point and on a nice day many hundreds of people come down to spend time on the water. The Park is about about six miles from the reactors at Indian Point. The Village of Croton has signed on to the petition opposing relicensing and many local citizens are actively involved in the struggle to close the plant.

Our goal this year was to educate and update as many people as possible, collect signatures on the petition against relicensing and to generate handwritten letters to the governor. Over 80 people sat down and wrote letters to Gov. Spitzer detailing their personal reasons why Indian Point should be closed. Tabling at events like this is hard work and an important outreach to the community.
